Im here!!!! Im going to try to blog more if anyone cares! But before I blog about my new life in Doha… I thought Id leave you with a post I wrote a while back when I was visiting Egypt for the first time since moving to Doha.
EGYPT…. The source of thousands of emotions, mostly negative, haha only joking (or am I)… It was nice to have a break from Egypt… I have not been here for over a year. Last time we left here was when we moved to Doha… It was a good break… I was very excited but also very nervous about coming back… I was thrilled that I would finally have something to blog about, but also not too thrilled to be mostly alone with two kids in a country that clearly brings out many of my negative sides haha!
But I thought I owe it to my Egyptian family to stay for a while so they could get to know their grandkids, so I’ve been here for nearly a month… Was it too long, you ask? YES YES YES… Not because of the family side, but because of the country… Now where do I start…
Its been HELL, to say it nicely… When I lived here I think I buried my head in Egyptian concrete, not sand… Thinking back I was like yeah, the traffic is a bit crazy, and yeah some Egyptians can be pretty aggressive, and most people aren’t really bothered about safety, and its a bit noisy…. But HELL…. Seriously Egypt… WHAT IS THIS???
You want to know why people have a much shorter life expectancy here in Egypt, well lets be honest, I think most people die here crossing the roads and in the traffic, then its due to the food hygiene, and then if you have survived both Egyptian hygiene and traffic issues, you are definitely sure to be beaten up by a random angry stranger…
So im just going to put this out there, but wow Egypt is a very angry country… I’m annoyed, actually very angry hahaha, because I wanted to come back to Egypt to blog about all the beautiful things Egypt has to offer, and how much I missed this beautiful country, but now im angry at you, Egypt… I’m angry that my amazing husband comes from a shithole like this… Im angry that my children are half from this shithole… And that’s not because it’s not a beautiful country, because it is… All the stunning history and absolutely beautiful beaches, and amazing weather… But your people are shit… Okey yes, you find exceptions, and you can’t really generalize but when so many people destroy such a beautiful country then its population is shit too…
What did I manage to forget:
I forgot… how much Egyptians really stare… Growing up I was always told that staring is not nice, it makes people uncomfortable and its rude… But people here take staring to a whole other level, they have made it an olympic sport, and most of the Egyptians are in the Guinness world record books for staring… And then add a little whispering and some more staring and you have an Egyptian recipe for making anyone as uncomfortable as hell and want to curl up and die… And no it’s not only men, the Egyptian women will stare all the way into your soul…
I forgot… how much sexual harassment there really is… and there is NOTHING that stops the men here… I’m talking sitting in the car with my husband next to me, ring on my finger, two kids in the back and there is man drool dripping all over the front of our car… Walking from the apartment to the car and the painters literally stop painting, lay down their tools and start staring from the first glimpse of a female body until this body disappears into the distance… Now I have a question for you sick men… What are you going to do when you have finished staring, what are you trying to gain from staring at a woman in the disgusting animalistic way that you do….
I forgot… how dirty this country is… Does no one have respect for this country… I mean you’re so proud when it comes to a football game and Egypt is playing, but then when you have the choice of throwing away your rubbish in a bin or on the streets, you throw it into the streets, where is your pride then?… And I’m talking rotting food in the streets… WHY? WHY do you need to throw your rubbish in the streets, would you leave food rotting on the floor of your bedroom? NO? Then don’t leave it in the streets…
I forgot…. how little lives are worth here… From the street cleaners to animals… Why are the people who clean the streets looked down on… why should they walk with their eyes lowered as to not look anyone in the eye… What is the problem, if you get eye contact with someone cleaning the streets and give him/her a smile… Would the world collapse? Nope… it probably might make their day a little better, to be recognized by someone else… And do we even need to talk about the amount of dogs left outside screaming and crying the whole night.. Look its simple, don’t want a dog, then don’t fucking get one… SO FREAKING SIMPLE… There is no one walking around placing angry dogs in your gardens or on your balconies, so if you can’t love your dog enough to let him/her inside when he/she is scared, lonely or cold, then just dont get one… Continue thinking about only yourself and leave the loving of animals to someone who has a big enough heart… And if you kill an animal while driving, like millions of you do all the time, please remove it to a nicer place… Dont leave it in the middle/side of the road to rot and for other people to have to see… I have seen more rotting animals in these 3 weeks than in my whole entire life outside of Egypt…
I forgot… how angry the people here are… Today on the way back home we saw 3 cars involved in an accident… It was a tiny one…the first one had stopped and then two cars hit from the back, and you’re talking a slight dent, but no debris falling from any car… So beside these 3 cars you have 6 men standing on the side of the road screaming their heads off at each other waving their hands and are millimeters from punching each other in the face… Now ill leave this incident with one question…. Once one of the men starts punching, because it will very likely happen, when will it stop, and then when the fight stops, what will the outcome be? Will the cars be fixed? I was 19 when I saw two grown men punching each other, for the first time, as if they were trying to kill, and that was here in Egypt. It was my taxi driver and another guy… Want to know why they were punching each other? Because they are Egyptian! Sounds like a silly reason… But what actually happened was the taxi driver was driving like an idiot, another idiot drove in front of him, a little too close, the taxi beeped, the other guy swore to his mother, and then the taxi driver tried to hit him with the car and they both pulled over to the side of the road to continue the fight with their fists… Now you see what I mean with the reason for the fight being that they are Egyptian? No other logical explanation…
I forgot… how disgusting this class talk is… It actually makes me want to vomit and eat the vomit and then vomit again and then punch some random taxi driver in the face…. THAT IS HOW ANGRY I get when someone talks to me about class…. There is no such thing as class… It’s just something that the Egyptians are hanging on to for dear life to be able to talk about themselves and how they are better than someone else because of class.. Most of the kindest Egyptians I have met, have been the poorest, and then ones with money have been so ill-mannered and CLASSLESS I have wanted to go dig my own grave after just 5 minutes in their presence… Lets just get this straight, NO ONE is better than ANYONE else because of what they have or where they have studied or which area of Cairo they come from… Everyone is born human beings and everyone should be treated that way… The end…
You see…. I’ve become an angry person again… Just by entering the Egyptian airspace all this negative energy and emotions boil over in me… I hate negative angry people, unfair rules, no rules, noise, dirt and Egypt has it all…. Which I hate even more, because I have a need to love this country…
On a happier note ill add some happy photos!
